EpisodeBrain
Privacy policy
Last updated October 24, 2026
EpisodeBrain is a Chrome extension that remembers which episode you reached on the streaming websites you choose. This page explains what it reads, what it stores, and the little it sends.
In short: your shows and episodes stay in your own browser. EpisodeBrain sends anonymous usage statistics, which never include show names, page addresses or anything you type, and you can turn them off.
What EpisodeBrain reads, on your device
- On websites you add, it reads the page you're on (its title, headings, address and the video player's title) to work out the show and episode.
- On other websites, a small script notices when a video has been playing for a few seconds. If it's a long video, EpisodeBrain reads the page the same way to check whether it's an episode of a show, and if it is, shows a card asking whether to track that website. Nothing is saved or sent unless you click Track. If you choose not to be asked again, that website is remembered in your browser.
All of this happens in your browser. Page contents are never sent anywhere.
What it stores
- In Chrome's sync storage: the websites you added (and any name you gave them), and for each one the shows you watched, the episode you reached, its address and when you watched it. If you use Chrome sync, Google keeps this in your Google account so it follows you between your computers. The developer has no access to it.
- In your browser only: a copy of your list for the popup to show quickly, the current page's address and playing video title while EpisodeBrain reads it, the websites you asked not to be offered again, a count of episodes tracked (to decide when to ask for a rating), your usage statistics choice, and a random ID for usage statistics.
Anonymous usage statistics
To find out where show detection works and where it fails, EpisodeBrain sends a short event to Google Analytics when you:
- install or update the extension, or open its popup
- add, edit or remove a website, or remove a show
- watch on a website you added: whether a show was found, and if so which method found it, and whether it was a new show or a new episode
- see, accept or dismiss the request to rate EpisodeBrain
Each event carries only:
- a random ID created when you install EpisodeBrain, not linked to you
- the extension's version and your browser's language
-
for events about a website you added, its host name (for example
www.crunchyroll.com), and counts such as how many websites and shows you have
Events never include show or episode names, page addresses, page contents, anything you type, or anything about websites you haven't added. Google Analytics processes them for EpisodeBrain under Google's privacy policy and doesn't log or store IP addresses.
To turn them off, open the EpisodeBrain popup and click Turn off next to "Sends anonymous usage stats". Nothing more is sent until you turn them back on.
If you uninstall
Chrome opens a page asking what went wrong. If you write an answer and send it, your answer, your browser's language and the extension's version are stored in a Google Form that only the developer reads. Answering is optional.
What EpisodeBrain doesn't do
- It doesn't sell or rent data, or use it for advertising.
- It doesn't share data with anyone except Google, as the provider of Google Analytics and Google Forms.
- It doesn't use data to judge creditworthiness or for any purpose other than running and improving EpisodeBrain.
EpisodeBrain's use of information follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Keeping and deleting data
Removing EpisodeBrain deletes what it stored in your browser. Chrome sync data can be cleared from your Google account's Chrome sync settings. Usage statistics are anonymous, so they can't be linked back to you; Google Analytics keeps them only as long as its data retention setting allows.
Changes and contact
If EpisodeBrain starts reading, storing or sending something new, this page changes first and the date at the top moves. For questions, use the developer contact on EpisodeBrain's Chrome Web Store page.
